$299 ‘WOWCube’ with LCD screens in each square
Cubios debuted an earlier version of the WOWCube a few years ago.
One of the most iconic puzzles of the past 50 years has evolved into a new way to play mobile games. First introduced earlier this year, the Rubik’s WOWCube is a simpler version of the 2×2 puzzle that swaps colored squares for 24 tiny color LCD screens.
It still spins like a traditional Rubik’s Cube, but instead of aligning colored squares, this mechanic is used to play mobile games, such as guiding a race car to the finish line by lining up track pieces scattered across various screens.

In 2024, the company announced a collaboration with Spin Master, which acquired the Rubik’s brand in early 2021, to create an officially licensed version of the device. It’s now finally available for pre-order for a whopping $299, with shipping expected before the holidays this year. The battery life is said to be up to five hours, and the WOWCube comes with a proprietary charger.
In addition to being able to rotate 24 screens, the WOWCube has sensors that allow you to play games by tilting the entire cube, shaking it, or tapping it. Through the mobile app, you can access the WOWCube app store, which has a variety of free and paid games that are wirelessly sent to the device via Bluetooth. Cubios also offers an SDK for developers who want to create their own apps or games.

The selection isn’t anywhere near as expansive as what you’ll find on Apple or Google’s app stores, but it includes versions of popular games like Space Invaders, 2048, and Cut the Rope that have been customized with unique gameplay for the WOWCube.

And of course, the WOWCube can work like a traditional Rubik’s Cube. If you can’t solve it yourself, instead of having to peel and re-stick the stickers to align the colored squares, you can simply reset it.
