2026 is poised to see several highly anticipated art-venue openings worldwide, marking a pivotal moment for the global cultural landscape. Amongst the many are the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, designed by Frank Gehry (set to be the largest Guggenheim in the world, clocking in with a site of 42,000 square metres) and Plais de Danse in St Ives, United Kingdom, where Barbara Hepworth’s former cinema-turned-studio will reopen to the public after nearly 50 years.

Other new spaces include Wales’ first contemporary art museum, AMOCA, focusing on local talent, as well as the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas. Keep an eye out for these important venues in the new year, which will hopefully be filled with visiting exhibitions!
