Google is testing a new color feature for Search
Google has not publicly commented on whether the feature will be rolled out more widely or remain a small-scale test.
Key Points:
- Google is testing customization and adaptation of search themes.
- The new “Color your Search” feature allows you to choose between 10 accent colors.
- This feature appears to be available on large screens and mobile devices.
9to5Google has spotted that Google is testing a new feature called “Color Your Search.” If you’re one of the lucky ones who got the feature today, you should see a color palette icon in the top-left corner of your search results page. Clicking on this icon will open a “Color Your Search” page with 10 color options. The first option is the default white/black, and the other nine are a rainbow of pastel colors.

Selecting one of these shades changes the color of the top part of the interface, including a monochrome version of the Google logo, while the search results themselves remain unchanged. The color treatment ends in the header, links, excerpts, and ratings remain untouched.
Don’t expect this customization tool to do anything crazy. It’s a pretty basic feature that simply applies a colorful accent to the top of the search results page. Still, it’s nice to be able to customize the look of the results page, even if it’s just a small change.
The focus on devices hints at how the tech giant might be thinking about the evolution of Search. Tablets and foldables offer more room for experimentation and increasingly blur the line between web and app-like experiences. Giving Search a customizable focus could make it feel more natural on larger Android screens without having to redesign the core product.
