LG was the only brand to offer not only 8K LCD but also 8K OLED TVs. 8K TVs have proven to be a failure, hampered by high prices, limited native 8K content, misleading marketing of 8K upscaling, and the fact that the best 4K TVs are outperforming them in picture quality.

Despite sluggish sales, several TV manufacturers have persevered with their goals, and Sony even enabled 8K support on the PlayStation 5 Pro console in late 2024, but it didn’t help much. Instead, the move highlighted a big problem: many 8K TVs don’t accept a compressed 8K signal over HDMI 2.1.
LG will no longer produce 8K resolution
You may recall that there was even a brief industry controversy over true 8K resolution, with LG advertising its 8K OLED TVs as “true 8K,” as opposed to Samsung’s “Neo QLED” 8K LCD TVs, which sacrifice effective resolution (subpixel rendering) to improve viewing angles.
Display manufacturer LG Display confirmed that development of 8K OLED displays has also been halted, although it is prepared to resume it if market conditions change.
When it comes to LCDs, LG introduced its first 8K model in 2019, the SM99. The 8K lineup expanded significantly in 2021, with more affordable options, but was scaled back in 2022, skipped entirely in 2023, and effectively ended in 2024 with the QNED99T, which was only available in select regions.
The QNED99T model was also available in 2025, but as of early 2026, it is no longer in stock and is no longer available in major retailers. The discontinuation has been confirmed by FlatpanelsHD sources. The remaining models are still available, but only while supplies last. No new 8K LCD models have been announced for 2026.
