Weibo: budget ‘MacBook’ will have significant functional limitations
All efforts are made for a really low price.
A Weibo source has analyzed an internal version of Apple’s kernel debugging kit for the macOS Tahoe beta and found that the upcoming budget MacBook will have significant functional limitations. According to the lines of code analyzed by the source, these limitations include:
- The downside of True Tone is that it automatically adjusts color temperature depending on lighting conditions.
- Lack of fast charging.
- The absence of Apple’s proprietary N1 chip – instead, a MediaTek chip will be used for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
- Lack of keyboard backlight.
- 8 GB RAM, slower 256 GB and 512 GB SSD drives (a 128 GB version for the education market is also mentioned).
- Lack of support for high-impedance headphones.
Such sacrifices will likely be necessary to keep the new Mac’s price at the $599 mark that Apple is rumored to have set for this laptop to maximize its mid-range competitors.
You will be able to find out whether the predictions of internal sources will come true at the company’s presentation on March 4.
