Apple has formed a new team to develop a ChatGPT-like app, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reports.
This team – reportedly called Answers, Knowledge, and Information or (AKI) will work on an answer engine that will generate answers using information from across the web. This can be a standalone app or provide search capabilities in Siri, Safari, and other Apple products.

Apple doesn’t currently have such a product. While users can connect Siri and Apple Intelligence with ChatGPT to have its algorithms crawl the web and find answers to their questions, Apple doesn’t have its own standalone app that does the same.
According to Gurman, the AKI team is investigating whether the rumored “answer engine” could fill this gap. They are also working on improving the search capabilities of Siri, Spotlight, and Safari. The team is led by Robby Walker, who reports directly to Apple’s head of artificial intellingence, John Giannandrea.
Gurman also notes that Apple is posting job postings for this team, specifically looking for candidates with experience with search algorithms and systems development.
How could it be otherwise, according to a previous Bloomberg report, CEO Tim Cook is now betting big on AI. He believes the artificial intelligence revolution is “as big or bigger” than the internet, smartphones, cloud computing, and apps.
