Instagram is developing a new feature called “Picks” that will help users discover shared interests with friends. In fact, a spokesperson for the Meta-owned social media platform confirmed to TechCrunch that Picks is currently just an internal prototype and is not being tested publicly.

The feature was first spotted by reverse-engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who often finds unreleased features while they’re still in development.

According to screenshots shared by Paluzzi, people select their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music, or their “choices.” Instagram then finds matches with friends who have chosen the same things.

While Instagram hasn’t provided any details about the feature, the company likely sees “Picks” as a way for users to connect more personally with friends and start conversations about shared interests.

However, not everyone seems to be excited about this addition. Some users already feel that Instagram is overloaded with features. Many users annoying that they never wanted the new feature in the first place.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri said earlier this year that the social network was going to focus on creativity and connection in 2025. “To help people connect with friends over the things they discover on Instagram, we’re going to double down on messaging, make consuming content more interactive and social, and explore new ways to connect with friends,” Mosseri wrote in a January Instagram post.

We will inform when Instagram adds this feature to the public, as we don’t know how about “Pics” will be available.
