‘ChatGPT’ now lets you buy directly from the app
With ChatGPT's new instant checkout feature, users can purchase products from Etsy without leaving the app.
To make purchases its free for users, while merchants pay a ‘small fee.’
OpenAI has added a new instant checkout feature to ChatGPT, which will allow users to make purchases on Etsy and Shopify without leaving the app or website. The feature is powered by OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol and was developed in partnership with Stripe and other leading merchants.

At launch, “Instant Checkout” will support single-item purchases on Etsy for ChatGPT “Free”, “Plus”, and “Pro” subscribers. The feature will soon expand to over a million Shopify resellers, including Glossier, SKIMS, Spanx, and Vuori, and will support multi-item carts.
Here’s how the feature works: If you search for products on ChatGPT and come across an Etsy listing, you can click the “Buy” button on its details page to confirm the order, shipping, and pricing details within the app.
ChatGPT subscribers can use their existing card information or add a new card or express payment option to complete the purchase.
Payments and delivery are handled by e-commerce platforms as usual. “ChatGPT simply acts as a user’s AI agent – securely communicating information between the user and the seller, just as a digital personal shopper would,” OpenAI said in a press release.
For users, this feature is free and saves time by eliminating the need to visit the merchant’s website. And for OpenAI, this will bring a “small” merchant fee with each successful purchase. To join the program, merchants can head to OpenAI’s website.
OpenAI has been rolling out updates to ChatGPT in recent days. Last week, a new section called Pulse was added to provide helpful updates and reminders based on chat history. This week, parental control features were added to enhance the safety of teens.
