AI-generated content is banned from the Oscars
AI-generated actors and scripts are now ineligible for Oscars.
The organization that presents the Oscars announced new rules on Friday, including several related to the use of generative artificial intelligence.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has stated that only roles that are “identified in the film’s official credits and clearly performed by people with their consent” will be eligible for Oscars. Similarly, the academy has stated that screenplays must be “authored by people” to be eligible.
The Academy also stated that it had the right to request more information about the film’s use of artificial intelligence and “human authorship.”
The rule changes come as an independent film starring an AI version of Val Kilmer is in the works, AI “actress” Tilly Norwood is making headlines, and new video models are prompting at least a few filmmakers to issue statements of despair. AI was also a major obstacle to the 2023 actors and writers’ strikes.
Outside of Hollywood, at least one novel has been removed by a publisher for its apparent use of artificial intelligence, while other writing groups are claiming that the use of artificial intelligence prevents their works from being eligible for awards.
