Apple has launched the App Store online, a central store where you can browse various categories of apps across all of the company’s devices, as previously spotted by “MacRumors” and “9to5Mac”. Now, when you visit apps.apple.com, you’ll see a revamped interface, rather than a webpage that just lists information about the App Store.

The new interface allows users to browse apps by category and platform – there are separate sections for apps for “iPhone”, “iPad”, “Watch”, and other devices. While users can’t currently download apps from the web, that feature could be added later. You can view recommendations in the Today tab, as well as sort apps by categories like productivity, entertainment, adventure, and more.

The move also reflects Apple’s ongoing efforts to present itself as a more open ecosystem. For years, governments around the world have filed lawsuits against Apple, accusing the company of acting like a monopoly to discourage competition – any move by Apple to make its products more accessible outside of its ecosystem is important to these ongoing legal battles.
The new online App Store also acts as a portal where you can search for apps. Previously, Apple offered web pages for each of its apps, but they weren’t easily accessible or searchable unless you could find them via a direct link.
