Apple is preparing a major update to the photo editor in iOS 27
The company is looking to compete more effectively with some Android flagships.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, citing his sources, reported that Apple is preparing a major update for the photo editor on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
The insider writes that the main new feature of the editor in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 will be AI functions powered by Apple Intelligence. These include smart cropping and generative border expansion. All operations are performed locally on the device. Gurman’s sources note that AI editing takes just a few seconds. Apple representatives declined to comment on the publication’s information.
Apple devices can currently use AI to remove unwanted objects from a frame. Bloomberg notes that competitors’ flagships, such as the Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, offer a significantly broader range of AI editing features. For example, Pixels can blur the background, add objects, and expand a photo’s boundaries.
