Apple to release ‘iPad Air’ with OLED display in spring 2027
Mass production of new matrices from Samsung will begin at the end of the year.
Reports have emerged that Apple plans to upgrade its iPad Air line to OLED screens. According to the Korean publication ETNews, the updated tablet is expected to be released in the spring of 2027, perhaps in March or May.
To keep the price affordable, Apple will ditch the expensive panels found in the iPad Pro. Instead, the Air will use a cheaper and simpler version of OLED: a single-stack panel with an LTPS matrix and a hybrid substrate.
The publication’s sources note that the high price of the OLED versions of the iPad Pro resulted in lower sales than expected. With the Air, the company is counting on mass demand due to lower component costs.
Samsung Display will be the primary partner for screen production. The company is expected to begin mass production of the panels in late 2026 or January 2027.
