Technology giant Apple has introduced a new model, the iPhone 17e, which officially closes the SE page. Instead of episodic updates to the “cheap iPhone”, the company promises an annual “e” series, which has become a permanent part of the product family.

This is no longer an occasional compromise model. It is a separate line with its own role – to be a more accessible, but no longer cheap option.
The design is familiar, the accent is the color
At first glance, there aren’t many changes. A single main camera, a classic screen cutout with “bangs”, and no Dynamic Island. Visually, it’s a conservative decision that clearly distinguishes the 17e from more expensive models.
The most striking exterior accent is the new “Soft Pink” color, which is becoming the calling card of this generation. The minimalist, soft shade is aimed at a younger audience and those who want a subtle but recognizable design.
Inside – more serious changes
The real news isn’t on the outside, but on the inside. The iPhone 17e is equipped with the new Apple A19 processor, which promises faster performance, better power efficiency, and longer software support in the future.
The model also received a second-generation Ceramic Shield protective glass and, finally, MagSafe support, a feature that has been missing from cheaper models until now. This means full support for the ecosystem of magnetic cases, chargers, and other accessories.
The minimum amount of memory now starts at 256 GB – a decision that seems logical in 2026, but at the same time raises the question of whether this is one of the reasons why the price has increased.
The camera is improved, but not revolutionary
The device features a 48-megapixel Fusion camera with improved autofocus. It’s a step up from previous SE models, but the photography capabilities are still basic compared to higher-end iPhones.
This is a phone for everyday photos, social networking, and simple content creation, but not for the professional mobile photography enthusiast.
Price with a question mark
The starting price of the iPhone 17e in Europe is €699, while the 512 GB version will cost €949. And this is where the debate begins.
The model still doesn’t have a 120Hz refresh rate display, a feature that has become common even on mid-range Android devices. For almost 700 euros, some users might expect more than a 60Hz panel.
Who is the iPhone 17e for?
This is a phone for those who want Apple’s latest chip, long-term software support, and the MagSafe ecosystem, but don’t want to pay for Pro cameras or cutting-edge display technology.
The iPhone 17e offers a modern inside and a familiar outside, but clearly balances on the line between “affordable” and “too expensive a compromise.”
Pre-orders start on March 4, and official sales will begin on March 11. Whether the “e” series will become a new hit or just a more expensive SE version will be decided by buyers, who are now offered not a cheap, but simply a slightly less luxurious iPhone.
