AT&T unveils Amigo Jr., a kid phone built around safety
AmiGo Jr.'s phone is a Samsung Galaxy A16, updated with safety features like location tracking and screen time limits.
A new smartphone from Samsung is designed specifically for children ages six and up, with a focus on safety, simplicity, and controlled communication. The device, unveiled in an official AT&T press release, marks the company’s latest step in family-oriented technology solutions and comes at a time when parents are increasingly concerned about screen time, interaction with strangers, and unfiltered access to the Internet.

Under the hood, the phone features 4G LTE connectivity, a simplified home screen, and a curated app store that only includes essential features like messaging, photos, learning tools, and parent-approved games.
AT&T also includes location tracking with real-time updates, geofence alerts, and emergency call directions. The phone carrier emphasizes that the Amigo Jr. isn’t designed to be a full-fledged smartphone, but rather a middle ground between a flip phone and a standard Android device.
A device that allows children to be accessible and independent without giving them access to social media, open web browsing, or unfiltered app stores. Parents frustrated with the complicated restriction management on regular smartphones can choose a device designed from the ground up with safety in mind.
The Amigo Jr. will be available starting February 7th at AT&T stores and online. The price is expected to be budget-friendly, as AT&T offers installment payment plans and the ability to bundle the phone with existing family lines.
