Backstreet Boys recreate ‘I Want It That Way’ song video in (2025)
More than 25 years after their first performance, the Backstreet Boys are back.
They returned to one of pop music’s most recognizable catwalks with a newly filmed 2025 version of “I Want It That Way,” rethinking the aesthetic of their 1999 classic and adapting it to today’s screen habits.

The updated music video recreates the original, now iconic, airport hangar setting with an airplane backdrop and matching white suits. Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson perform the song in one continuous take. The band says the idea came organically while they were filming promotional material for upcoming live shows.
The 2025 version is a faithful replica of the original, but its format reflects how viewing has changed. The vertically shot video is designed for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, where a large portion of the band’s multigenerational audience is now exposed to the music.
“I Want It That Way” was released in 1999 as the lead single from the band’s album “Millennium” and quickly became a defining track in the Backstreet Boys career. The song reached number one internationally and remains a part of pop culture, often resurfacing through memes, sing-alongs, and reunion tours.
The timing of the new video coincides with a busy period for the band. In 2025, the Backstreet Boys celebrated the 25th anniversary of “Millennium” with the release of a reissue album, “Millennium 2.0”, featuring remastered tracks and alternate takes. The anniversary release coincided with their “Into The Millennium” residency at the “Sphere” club in Las Vegas, which was extended several times due to continued demand.
More of their hit songs include “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back),” “As Long As You Love Me,” “Shape of My Heart,” and “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.” Looking ahead, the video is also a bridge to the band’s European plans, with their first extended show in Germany scheduled for 2026.
