The design app Canva will soon be able to be controlled using a language model, create graphics, share individual elements, and deliver the result to various channels. Australian software maker Canva wants to further transform its same-name graphic design platform into an AI-powered environment with Canva AI 2.0. Instead of clicking through tools and templates, users will simply describe their ideas in dialogue with a language model, and AI will take care of the rest.

Canva didn’t reveal which language model it will use. The company talks about its “Fundamental Design Models” developed in its AI lab. Canva apparently combines multiple models and frameworks optimized for design, layout, and content. In the past, Canva has also relied on external AI services to generate text or images.

Create through conversation, not clicks
By interacting with AI, users can formulate their ideas, and Canva creates detailed, editable designs. The process doesn’t end after the first output: AI stays in the exchange, adjusting content as needed, and accompanies projects through to completion.
A new management layer will coordinate background functions, select and connect the right tools, and enable the planning and implementation of entire campaigns, such as marketing actions across different media.
Change without a new beginning
Canva’s AI is said to be able to precisely edit details without having to redesign the entire design. This means that text, images, or layouts can be adjusted individually, while everything else remains unchanged. All content remains fully editable, making it easier for teams to work together.
AI remembers style and brand
Another new feature is a kind of AI brand memory. Canva learns workflows, design styles, and brand guidelines and automatically applies them to new projects. This ensures that content remains consistent, without users having to manually define every detail.
Integrate external services
Canva also extends the platform with a range of features for everyday work. External services such as email, calendar or collaboration tools can be integrated to create content from existing data. Repetitive tasks can also be automated, such as creating social media posts or preparing meeting summaries. The built-in research function provides structured information from the web.
Prices and availability
Canva AI 2.0 is launching immediately, initially as a “research preview” for the first million users who sign up through the Canva website. Canva plans to gradually expand access over the coming weeks.
The software runs as a platform-independent web application. The free basic offering, “Free”, gives you access to the design app and the desktop software, Affinity. “Pro” adds artificial intelligence tools to both apps for €12 per month or €110 per year. The “Business” and “Enterprise” plans expand the offering for professional purposes and teamwork.
