China is reorienting the electronics industry to a new level
Slowing global smartphone shipments are causing Chinese electronics suppliers to turn to humanoid robots.
China’s smartphone and electronics industry is beginning to actively reorient itself towards a new direction – humanoid robots. According to SCMP, due to the slowdown in the mobile device market, component suppliers are looking for new ways to apply their technologies and are increasingly seeing prospects in robotics, which is currently developing rapidly.

One of the most prominent examples of this intersection is “Honor,” which entered the humanoid robot segment last year. Its robot D1 unexpectedly won the Beijing Robot Half Marathon, beating even well-known robotics companies, including “Unitree.” The company’s other robot, “Lightning,” also performed well, beating the human world record.
Honor engineers attribute this success to the fact that they used smartphone industry technologies to develop their robots, including cooling systems that helped the motor operate stably under long-term load.
Large smartphone component suppliers such as “Lingyi iTech,” “Lens Technology,” and “AAC Technologies” play a significant role in robot manufacturing and are now supplying parts for robotics projects as well.
In general, the market is moving towards mass production of humanoid robots and their widespread deployment, and it is at this stage that the Chinese electronics industry is trying to occupy a new, promising growth niche.
