Cloudwards: mapped internet freedom by country in 2026
While some internet users don't have to worry about popular websites banning them for expressing their opinions online, others face severe restrictions.
The international portal Cloudwards published a report on the level of internet freedom in 2026, in which researchers analyzed the availability of torrent sites, block circumvention services, adult content, and freedom of political and civic expression online.

Russia scored 4 points out of a possible 100, tying China, Iran, and Pakistan for the same position. The study shows that Russia receives a low score due to blocking or temporary restrictions of major international platforms, including X, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook.
Russia was also singled out as a country where services for circumventing blocking are subject to strict blocking and restrictions.
The highest score in the ranking (92 points) was achieved by 11 countries, including Belgium, Denmark, and Norway, while the DPRK ranked last with 0 points.
