Discord delays mandatory age verification until mid-2026
The company noted that it understands consumer dissatisfaction and also stated that it will not cooperate with Persona.
In early February, Discord announced that it would require age verification for users who want to access adult content. Shortly after, the company clarified that not all users would have to verify their identity. But now the company has decided to delay the implementation of verification altogether.

One of the main reasons was again user dissatisfaction. Discord co-founder Stanislav Vishnevsky noted that he understood this reaction, adding that 90% of users will not have to verify their age.
The remaining 10% will be able to complete the verification without providing sensitive personal information, but they will also be able to opt out of the procedure – they will be able to continue using the service, but with restrictions.
Another change in Discord’s approach is that the company will no longer partner with Persona, which previously handled user age verification. Lead investor Peter Thiel is the co-founder of Palantir, a company with ties to the US government.
Discord has not said exactly when it will implement mandatory age verification for its users. The launch has been delayed until the second half of 2026.
