Apple now makes a quarter of all iPhones in India, in line with JPMorgan’s forecast from 2022. This is part of the company’s long-term strategy to reduce its dependence on China, TechCrunch reports. Last year, India produced about 55 million of the 220-230 million iPhones produced worldwide.
Apple already manufactures its entire iPhone 17 lineup in the country, and Tim Cook says Indian iPhones now meet most of the demand in the US. Production in India will accelerate in 2025 due to instability in China and shifting US tariffs.
In addition to manufacturing, India is becoming an important market for Apple. The company sold 14 million iPhones there last year, a 9% increase from 2015, and total revenue exceeded $9 billion. Apple also plans to introduce Apple Pay in the country this year and opened its sixth branded store last month.
Thus, India is becoming a major manufacturing and sales hub for Apple, helping the company diversify production and strengthen its position in the global market.
