Google is preparing Gemini Agent as your ’24/7 digital partner’
Google is working on an AI agent codenamed "Remy," according to an internal document.
According to Business Insider, Google is building a new AI “personal agent” for Gemini that can take actions on the user’s behalf.

According to an internal document seen by Business Insider and two people familiar with the matter, company employees have been testing a new AI agent called Remy, which runs only on the employee-only version of the Google app Gemini and can integrate with various other Google services.
“Remy is your 24/7 personal agent for work, school, and daily life, powered by Gemini,” reads a description of the agent. “It elevates the Gemini app into a true assistant that can take actions on your behalf – not just answer questions or generate content.”
“Deeply integrated across Google, Remy can monitor for things that matter to you, handle complex tasks proactively, and learn your preferences over time.”
On Monday, the Google app 17.20 entered the beta channel with several new strings about “Gemini Agent.” While that’s the name of an existing feature available to Google AI “Ultra” subscribers, these strings seem to refer to a major upgrade, as discussed.
Two people familiar with Remy said employees are currently testing it. A Google spokesperson declined to comment.
AI labs are currently focusing heavily on agents. With improvements to the underlying models, they are now better and more reliably able to control autonomous tools. Google doesn’t yet have a widely available, fully autonomous AI agent product. However, it is rolling out “Agent Mode” and other related features that can perform multi-tasking tasks, and access to them varies by subscription level and region.
Gemini Agent’s greeting is “What can I get done for you today?” Strings also describe this new Gemini Agent as “Your 24/7 digital partner.”
“It can take actions for you on the web and with your Connected Apps and skills, like communicating with others, sharing documents, and making purchases for you. To do this, it uses info like your chats, info from your Connected Apps, Personal context, Personal Intelligence, Agent files, and location.”
As before, this is still “an experimental feature: it can make mistakes and unintentionally expose data. Be clear with your requests and be careful about asking it to perform sensitive tasks. Monitor its tasks and actions in your dashboard. Gemini is not intended for tasks that require professional knowledge, such as legal, medical, or financial actions.”
- Get personalized help: “Gemini Agent learns about you as you use it, including your interactions and tasks with Gemini, your personal context, and the files you upload. Manage and delete your activity in the Gemini Apps Activity section.”
- You’re in control: “Gemini saves your browser and cookie data, like your login details and browsing history. You can clear this data, turn off personal analytics, connected apps, and manage your personal context in settings.”
Later on May 12, 2026, the company will hold its I/O event, where it is expected to showcase a new series of artificial intelligence products. Agents are likely to be a big focus. Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis has long talked about his vision for a digital assistant.
