‘MacBook Neo 2’: release date, power, and market conquest plan
Apple is planning and trying to conquer the low-cost computer market.
Apple is planning to shake up the laptop market once again. After the first model attracted a lot of interest, technology analysts are already talking about the second generation of this device – the MacBook Neo 2, which is expected to appear in 2027. The details of the upcoming computer were first revealed by renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who revealed what changes can be expected.

Screen: a classic solution instead of a touch revolution
One of the most talked-about upcoming innovations was a possible touchscreen. Initially, it was speculated that Apple might implement a touchscreen to make the device more appealing to the education sector and for simple office tasks.
However, the company ultimately decided to leave the classic display without touch functionality. This decision allows for a clear separation of product lines and avoids direct competition with the iPad Pro, which is already focused on touch use.
Additionally, Apple plans to introduce a MacBook Pro with touchscreens by the end of 2026, leaving the Neo 2 as a simpler and cheaper model.
Impact on the market and competitors
The first MacBook Neo, priced at around $600, was a surprise hit in the computer market. For that price, users got a full-fledged Mac computer with macOS, something that was previously unimaginable.
According to executives at several technology companies, including Asus, the model has changed the rules of the game in the budget laptop segment. Until then, this segment was dominated by Windows computers, but Apple offered an alternative that cost about the same as a mid-range smartphone.
As a result, competitors have already begun to review their strategies in order to remain competitive in the affordable PC market.
Upcoming MacBook Neo 2 specifications
Although there are no official specifications yet, analysts predict that the MacBook Neo 2 will be equipped with the new Apple A19 Pro processor. This would mean even greater performance and energy efficiency.
The computer is expected to have 12GB of RAM integrated directly into the chip, similar to other recent Apple devices, an architecture that allows for faster speeds and more energy efficiency.
This amount of memory will become important for another reason – Apple Intelligence’s AI features, which should become an integral part of the entire Apple ecosystem by 2027. Even a cheaper computer will have enough power to work with local neural networks.
Competition in the technology market is only getting stronger
While Apple is preparing a new budget computer, competitors are also actively introducing innovations. For example, Honor recently introduced a gaming laptop with an RTX 5060 graphics card, thus demonstrating its ambitions in the gaming device segment.
However, if the MacBook Neo 2 maintains a similar balance of price and power as the first model, Apple could further strengthen its position in the low-cost laptop market, which has until now been dominated by completely different manufacturers.
