Macworld has found evidence in macOS 26.3 and iOS 26 system files that two different versions of the next-generation Studio Display are being developed. The monitors are codenamed J427 and J527. Both models will support a 120Hz refresh rate (ProMotion) and HDR.
The code analysis revealed that the devices will have different specifications. The J527 version will have an expanded set of ports and audio drivers to provide sound similar to the HomePod speakers. These features are expected to be part of the larger 32-inch model, while the base J427 model will retain the current ports and 27-inch diagonal.
Internal documents list the J427 as a 2025 product and the J527 as a 2026 product. The new products could be launched in the coming days, alongside new entry-level MacBooks, iPad Air with M4 chips, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and Max processors, and the iPhone 17e.
