Meta uses AI to analyze users’ bone structure to determine their age
This is how they identify children who are not allowed to use the company's internet services.
Meta Corporation wrote in its blog about new methods it uses to determine the age of users. One of the key innovations is the use of AI to search for visual clues in user profile images. These include an approximate estimate of a person’s height and bone structure. Meta claims it does not use facial recognition technologies and uses them only to determine age, not identity.

Algorithms also analyze people’s posts. As an example, a blog post mentions grades earned in school.
If the AI suspects a person is under 13, access to the account will be blocked in accordance with Meta’s terms of service, which apply in most countries. The company will require an official ID. Failure to do so will result in the profile being deleted. Children aged 14 to 18 will be transferred to a teen account, which limits access to potentially dangerous content.
Meta* has been repeatedly accused of violating the EU’s Digital Services Act, which prohibits children under 13 from accessing social media.
