Microsoft cancels Windows 11 update due to installation error
The installation process itself is broken.
Microsoft has halted the rollout of the Windows 11 update KB5079391 after receiving complaints about error 0x80073712. Tom’s Hardware reports that the update fails to install and gets stuck during installation attempts.

The 0x80073712 code indicates that the update package is missing or corrupt. The system cannot complete the installation due to invalid components. The company has limited the availability of the update through Windows Update. It is temporarily unavailable while a fixed version is being tested and prepared.
KB5079391 is a preliminary, optional update. It includes a new About page, an updated Narrator with Copilot integration, changes to the File Explorer, and support for displays with a refresh rate greater than 1000 Hz.
There are no reports of crashes after installation. The problem occurs during installation.
This isn’t the first time Windows 11 updates have caused problems. In March, Microsoft separately announced a course of quality improvements for the system, including more extensive testing and release stability.
There is currently no solution for installing KB5079391. Microsoft will have to re-release the update with the fixed files.
