Mirumi – the furry robot that steals a glance
Mirumi will never eat your socks or get stuck under furniture.
The small robot that mimics a baby’s curiosity is available for pre-order now on Kickstarter, but it won’t ship until April 2026. Mirumi, created by Yukai Engineering, was a unique standout at this year’s CES 2025. This tiny robot has no practical purpose other than looking adorable and bringing smiles to people’s faces by mimicking its curious personality.
The company had planned to release an additional robot sometime in mid-2025, but with just a few weeks left before the end of the year, Mirumi is finally available for pre-order through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
Yukai Engineering originally expected Mirumi to cost around $70, but since January, a lot has happened in the world, and in fact, the tiny robot will cost about twice that.
Early Kickstarter backers can pre-order Mirumi in gray, pink, or ivory fur for 18,360 yen, or about $118 with discounts. If you delay, the crowdfunding price will be 21,803 yen, or about $140, but that will still be deducted from the final retail price, which is expected to be $150.
Mirumi is positioned as a companion robot, but one that will be more likely to be useful to others. The robot attaches itself to the straps or handles of bags with its long arms and seems to look around curiously, turning and tilting its head from side to side.
Using a proximity sensor, Mirumi can also detect nearby people and seemingly focus its gaze and attention on them, but it also mimics a baby’s shy reaction, shaking and turning its head when someone suddenly appears or touches it.
Mirumi isn’t overloaded with features, and that may be its biggest appeal. It just hangs out with you and quietly watches the world go by, occasionally brightening someone’s day with just a glance.
