Cavalry is now a free motion design software for individuals. It used to be a paid subscription, but after Canva acquired the studio, it became free. Available for Mac or Windows. This means there are now two free replacements for After Effects to choose from.
Canva acquired Cavalry in February, joining Affinity, another free Canva product that has been reimagined as a comprehensive design platform that combines Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Publisher. If you’re not familiar with Cavalry, it’s a 2D animation tool with professional features, many of which are inspired by 3D software.
