Nintendo sues US government over tariffs. Affected ‘Switch 2’ release
The company was forced to delay the start of pre-orders for the Switch 2 console and raise the prices of accessories.
Nintendo of America has filed a lawsuit against the US government seeking damages for trade tariffs imposed by Donald Trump in early 2025. The defendants in the case include the Treasury Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and Customs and Border Protection.

In its lawsuit, Nintendo is citing a February 20 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that found the tariffs illegal. The company says it is entitled to damages because it is a major importer and was directly affected by the restrictions.
The tariffs forced Nintendo to delay pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the US and raise prices for some accessories. The company is taking legal action to secure compensation and interest for the losses it has suffered.
