According to The Information, OpenAI has formed a special team to create a family of AI-powered devices aimed at the company’s entry into the consumer electronics market.
More than 200 OpenAI employees are expected to create physical devices designed to make everyday interactions with artificial intelligence more convenient for users. The line of devices under development includes smart glasses, a smart lamp, and a smart speaker, which is expected to be the company’s first commercial device.
OpenAI’s smart speaker is expected to cost between $200 and $300. This move will put the company in competition with established device ecosystems like Apple, Google, and Amazon. There have been previous rumors of a device being developed in collaboration with Jony Ive.
