Samsung admits ‘Privacy Display’ can limit Galaxy S26 Ultra brightness
The difference is only noticeable when viewed at an angle and at maximum brightness, and is practically unnoticeable in everyday use, the company claims.
According to Techradar, Samsung has officially confirmed that the brightness of the new Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display has “some deviations” compared to the previous-generation S25 Ultra.

The reduced brightness is directly related to the new Privacy Display technology, which hides the screen content at the hardware level from anyone looking at the smartphone from the side. In an official statement to TechRadar, Samsung representatives said:
“The Privacy Screen is designed to protect the user’s privacy while providing a vivid visual experience during normal phone use. There will be some noticeable distortion when holding the phone at certain angles and at maximum brightness, but any impact on real-world smartphone use should be negligible.” Samsung’s comment.

TechRadar journalists confirmed the company’s claim during testing: to see the difference, you need to place the device next to last year’s S25 Ultra and increase the brightness to 100%. When the brightness is reduced, the difference disappears completely.
While some Reddit users complained of eye strain, reviewers reported no discomfort. They called the Privacy Display one of the best hardware innovations worth sacrificing a small amount of brightness for.
