South Korean publication Donga reports that Samsung is discontinuing production of the Galaxy Trifold smartphone just three months after its launch. In other markets, such as the US, sales will continue until Samsung runs out of smartphones.
Samsung reportedly designed the Trifold as a technology demonstration device, not a mass-market product. This was compounded by the semiconductor crisis, which has caused the prices of key smartphone components to skyrocket. Even at a high price, the Trifold is unlikely to generate the profits the company had hoped for.
Unofficial rumors suggest that Samsung sold only a few thousand devices.
