Samsung is testing the Galaxy Z Trifold concept to see how far it can go. The new phone, unveiled Tuesday, features Samsung’s first trifold design, which transforms a pocket-sized device into a tablet-sized display with two quick folds.

The Galaxy Z Trifold, unveiled at an event in Seoul, is Samsung’s most sophisticated foldable phone yet. When fully unfolded, it reveals a 10-inch display, about a quarter larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s display. The price reflects that ambition. Although it comes in at around $2,443, it’s well above the price of typical flagship phones.
First, it’s incredibly thin. When fully unfolded, it’s just 3.9mm thick at its thinnest point, and the screen measures a whopping 10 inches. Samsung calls it the most immersive phone display ever, but it leaves me wondering, “Why not just get a tablet?” The Galaxy Z TriFold’s hinges are expected to hold up well, but it still feels too luxurious to carry in your pocket.

The phone runs on a custom Snapdragon 8 chip. It has a 5,600mAh three-cell battery system and offers 45W super-fast charging. The rear camera lineup includes a 12MP ultra-wide lens, a 200MP wide-angle lens and a 10MP telephoto lens, which is identical to the setup on the Z Fold 7. The main screen and the cover screen both have 10MP front cameras.

The Korean price will be confirmed on 12 December, the day of its official launch.
