Starbucks lets ChatGPT decide what you drink
Your next visit to Starbucks might be inspired by your outfit.
Starbucks is introducing a new AI-powered feature in the ChatGPT system that suggests drinks based on your mood, cravings, or even a photo. The move makes it one of the first major restaurant chains to incorporate AI into the drink search and ordering process, providing a glimpse into the future of the digital menu.

“This is the kind of technology that sparks creativity and helps customers discover something new,” the company’s senior vice president of digital and loyalty, Paul Ridel, said in a statement.
The feature allows users to interact directly with Starbucks’ ChatGPT tool. Instead of scrolling through a fixed menu, customers can describe what they want – whether it’s something “light and refreshing” or “not too sweet” – and receive suggestions tailored to those cues.

Users can also upload photos – everything from their outfits to their surroundings – for the system to respond to. The tool interprets this data and turns it into drink ideas that match the tone or “vibe,” translating abstract preferences into concrete menu options.
Access is integrated into the ChatGPT app catalog, where users can initiate requests using “@starbucks.” The interaction then proceeds as a conversation, with the system maintaining context as users refine their choices. Once a beverage is selected, it can be further customized before proceeding to checkout, which is done through the Starbucks app or website.

The tool is still in beta, and its capabilities should evolve as users interact with it.
