‘Super Mario: The Galaxy Movie’ had the best global box office debut of 2026
Domestic box office ticket sales for the weekend exceeded the same period last year by 23%.
The Super Mario Bros. sequel grossed $372.5 million worldwide in its first day of release. This marks the best opening of 2026 and the fourth-highest gross of all time for an animated film.

The budget for “Galactic Cinema” was $110 million. Reaching the billion mark is almost certain – the first installment in 2023 opened with $375 million and ultimately grossed $1.3 billion.
Second place in the global box office is held by “The End of the World” with Ryan Gosling, whose box office receipts reached $420 million.
The original R-rated film “What a Drama!” starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson also saw its release. The film, with a production budget of $28 million, opened successfully at the box office with a similar amount.
