The Elec: Apple expects to produce three million foldable iPhones
They plan to do this by the end of 2026, but even that is enough to become one of the leaders in the niche.
Sources told “The Elec” how the production of the first foldable iPhone is going. According to them, Apple will produce 3 million devices by the end of the year, and screen production for them will begin this fiscal quarter. Previously, various analysts predicted that initial shipments of the foldable iPhone would range from 7 million to 20 million.

An unnamed expert from The Elec noted that Apple is being cautious after low sales of the Vision Pro headphones. The company plans to first monitor market reaction and only then adjust production scale. By the standards of foldable devices, 3 million units is a very impressive number. Samsung, the leading manufacturer of foldable phones on the market, last year predicted sales of 2.4 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The publication also notes that Samsung Display is producing the screens for the upcoming device. The companies have entered into an exclusive three-year agreement that prohibits the use of other companies’ screens in foldable iPhones.
There is no exact information yet on the device’s price or release date. On April 7, Nikkei Asia reported that production issues with the foldable iPhone could delay its release until next year. However, on the same day, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman clarified that Apple is still aiming to release the phone in September – slightly later than the main series of new iPhones.
