The Netherlands first in Europe to approve Tesla’s full autopilot system
It is believed to help Tesla gain approval in other European Union countries more quickly.
The Dutch road traffic regulator RDW has officially approved Tesla’s autonomous driving system (FSD) in the country, following more than a year and a half of testing. The Netherlands has become the first European country to approve American fully autonomous driving technology, partly because Tesla’s European headquarters are in Amsterdam.
“The correct use of driver assistance systems contributes positively to road safety by helping the driver to perform their tasks while driving; they complement the driver’s work. By constantly monitoring the driver in the car, the system is safer than other driver assistance systems.” – RDW press release.
The FSD update (version 2026.3.6) is now being deployed to Tesla vehicles in the Netherlands. It is hoped that the RDW approval will help Tesla to obtain similar approvals in other EU countries more quickly.
