YouTube adds option to remove ‘Shorts’ from search results
YouTube is also renaming and removing a few of its search options. The company says "they were not working as expected and had contributed to user complaints."
If you’re tired of seeing short videos at the top of YouTube search results, the app’s new filter will help you out. YouTube announced Thursday that it is adding a “Shorts” filter to the “Type” menu. This will allow users to remove shorter vertical videos from the results page and get to traditional, longer-form videos more quickly.

YouTube reacts to the recent note by video-editing firm Kapwing, which revealed that more than 21% of YouTube Shorts are AI-generated. The report also stated that around 33% of the Shorts sampled were “nonsensical, low-quality video content that creates the effect of corroding the viewer’s mental or intellectual state while watching.”
The platform did not specify when the new Shorts filter will be available, but information on the help page suggests that it could be introduced soon.
According to Google, the two filters we’re removing are ‘Upload Date – Last Hour’ and ‘Sort by Rating.’ However, you can still find the most recent search results in one of their ‘Upload Date’ filters, and explore popular, highly-viewed videos using the new ‘Popularity’ filter option.
